If you surf on the coast of Southern California, then you, like thousands of others, have likely shared the lineup with a great white shark or two. For the most part, they’re juveniles making their way from the nearby nurseries.
As great whites get bigger, they spend more time farther from shore. But every now and then, a big one decides to test the shallower waters. Like the one you see in this video from Carlos Gauna, also known as the Malibu Artist.
“This is one of the biggest sharks I’ve seen near our coast,” Guana wrote on Instagram. “Hanging about 100 yards off shore. It’s undoubtedly an adult. Likely in the 16-17 foot range. Notice how thick that head is. This one has a very unique dorsal fin as well.”
There’s no word on exactly where or when this was filmed, but’s a stark reminder that sharks do indeed live in the ocean… and that we’re sharing it with them.
