Bigbird is a pretty friendly pelican. And that disposition turned out to be a lifesaver for Bigbird because at a young age, before he’d learned how to fish for himself, he was caught in a storm and separated from his flock. Since a large part of how pelicans learn to fish is through imitating other grown pelicans this presented a problem when the folks at Sand and Safari in Tanzania found Bigbird. He didn’t know how to catch his own food so camp manager Jeffrey Condon took it upon himself to teach Bigbird. As you can see, the two became quite the inseparable duo. It’s cute enough to make you want a pet pelican.
