Watch This Cormorant Use a ‘Smoke Screen’ to Escape a Great White Shark

When a cormorant was swimming away from a great white shark, it chose a very opportune moment to take a poop. The shark didn’t appear to care.

You know how people always say that getting shit on by a bird is good luck? It’s clearly not. It’s just a thing they say to make you feel better about the fact that you just got shit on by a bird. But it’s not just us who end up on the bombing end of the occasional fecal  release — it happens to sharks, too.

After filming a handful of great white sharks attempting to go vegetarian, Carlos Gauna, who runs a highly entertaining YouTube channel called The Malibu Artist, captured footage that shows a cormorant using a smoke screen (at the 5:10 mark in the video above) in an attempt to outrun a shark that’s interested in it. Not really, of course, but I’d like to think that’s what it was doing.
