This is probably the most interesting shot with a story behind it as far as my history of shooting goes. This image was actually the last image on my card that I was using. Andy had made a huge drop out the back and as he rode the wave through the midsection while Kelly was paddling back out watching him navigate the mid-section at Waimea Bay. I wake up every morning staring at this image on my bedroom wall. Thank you Andy for inspiring us again and again. Photo: Patrick Eichstaedt
I cut my teeth in the surf game years ago by sitting on the beach for hours video taping a young Andy Irons and Cory Lopez charge Log Cabins. You may have also seen me on the wrong side of the camera in “The Decline” and “5’5″ Redux.”
I was born in Miami, Florida, in 1974 and moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1976. I began working with …Lost and through opportunities there, I have imagery published all over the globe. Family, health and friends are most important to me, and my school was traveling and listening to others–The School of Trial and Error.
