Hurricane Sandy changed everything. She was tough to shoot because the weather was so bad. After the wind went offshore, I took captured this monster at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head. For a little perspective, the end of the pier shown is over 1000' from the car in the foreground and the pier deck is 25' from sea level. At the peak of the storm and high tide, I shot a handful of waves breaking over the railing at the end of the pier.

I am an amateur surf photographer who lives, works, surfs and shoots on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After working for a couple of years following college, I left a great job and went to law school so that I could live on the coast and surf. Between surf sessions, I try to shoot my friends and the local pro contingent as well as a few lineup shots to remember the day’s surf. I’ve always had an interest in photography, particularly surf photography, but didn’t have the necessary equipment until a little over a year ago. I have a long way to go, but with the help of a bunch of stellar local photographers, I’ve started off in what I hope is the right direction. Either way, I am enjoying shooting almost as much as surfing these days.
